Joomla! 5.x Coding • Using FA icons in a custom button with Toolbar Helper

Is it possible to do this?
ToolbarHelper::custom takes an icon parameter, and it seems to create a span with a class of icon-XXXX, where XXXS is the icon parameter. And this works fine.
Is there a way to specify using an FA icon for this?
